Our Philosophy

Secular Humanistic Judaism offers an alternative approach to Judaism not found within other branches of Judaism.

We believe that Judaism is an ethnic culture created by the Jewish people and shaped by Jewish experience and that each person has the right to create a meaningful Jewish life free from supernatural authority and imposed tradition.

We create non-theistic Jewish rituals, services, celebrations and strive to inspire in children and adults a love of Jewish heritage. We appreciate the history of the Jewish people as a testimony to human ingenuity and courage. We seek to inspire a strong appreciation for the travails of the Jewish people. Tikkun Olam, repairing the world, is a major focus of our educational programs.

We take responsibility for our own behavior and collective responsibility for the state of our world. We seek solutions to human conflicts that respect the freedom, dignity and self-esteem of every human being.
